Hurricane Parks

Hey There! There were a few parks that were closed, or only had a small part of the park open, due to hurricane Matthew. So with our last state park blog post we'll show some of the pictures we were able to get. We really wanted to see Hunting Island State Park but this one was hit the hardest and only the visitor center was open so we could get our stamp. We hope you've enjoyed this blog and it has inspired you to visit all these great parks!!

Please note we visited all these parks in 2016, state parks are ever changing so be sure to visit the official South Carolina State Parks website before you're visit for up to date information!!

Oconee State Park

Hey there!! Today we visit Oconee State Park! This is a large park that has something for everyone, a perfect mountain getaway. They have two small lakes, a nice campground, miles of trails and even a putt putt golf course!

The main office/country store is right next to the bigger lake. You can rent paddleboats, canoes, and swim at this lake.

There are several trails at the park, two lead to waterfalls! Today we took the lake trail, it circles the lake and is about 2 miles long. This trail is easy and mostly flat, the waterfall trails are harder and have more hills.

This park has so much to offer you really need to camp or stay in a cabin for a few days to enjoy it all. The trails don't disappoint, if you're up to it you can even hike down to Oconee Station falls and park. The lakes are nice, but not really large so you can probably explore the larger lake in a day. Caesars Head State Park

Hey there! Today we visit the scenic Caesars Head State Park. This park is well known for its scenic views, but that is just one of the great things about this park! Caesars Head is part of the Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area connecting to Jones Gap state park. There are several trails and waterfalls to be seen here! If you're up for a good challenge, hike to Raven Cliff falls, well worth the trip!!

The most popular attraction at Caesars Head is the overlook, just a short walk from the parking area and you get an amazing view. You can see Table Rock, and on a clear day even Greenville!

There's a short trail that gives you a good side view of Mr Caesar, or if you're feeling brave, go thru the rocks!

There's a trailhead across the road from the main parking area, from here you can do a short loop trail (Frank Coggins trail) or head towards Jones Gap on the Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area trail. We hiked the Frank Coggins trail, it was a 2 mile round trip. The terrain is moderate so be prepared! The trail has a good variety of terrain, it passes over a waterfall and follows a stream for a little.

There is more to this park than meets the eye! Don't just stop by for the scenic views and leave, hike some of the trails and enjoy all this park has to offer. Poinsett State Park

Hey there! Today we visit Poinsett State Park! This park has over 20 miles of trails! It is one of the parks built by the CCC. There is a small lake, perfect for fishing or small boating.

The lake is right by the main office, there's also a small runoff and the remains of an old building.

We hiked around the lake and a little on another trail. There are plenty of trails to choose from. The trails are diverse and vary in difficulty. Some of the trails are very hilly!

Head to this park if you need a quiet getaway. The miles of trails, lake and campground are perfect for getting lost in nature. Scroll down to see a few more pictures.
