Poinsett State Park

Hey there! Today we visit Poinsett State Park! This park has over 20 miles of trails! It is one of the parks built by the CCC. There is a small lake, perfect for fishing or small boating.

The lake is right by the main office, there's also a small runoff and the remains of an old building.

We hiked around the lake and a little on another trail. There are plenty of trails to choose from. The trails are diverse and vary in difficulty. Some of the trails are very hilly!
Head to this park if you need a quiet getaway. The miles of trails, lake and campground are perfect for getting lost in nature. Scroll down to see a few more pictures. Be sure to read all our state park adventures on this blog, and then visit our website to see the pictures that didn't make it in the blog, and in higher resolution (Blog pics are reduced quality to help with space/load times). Fine art prints are available for purchase at our site also.

Sesquicentennial State Park

Hey there! Today we visit Sesquicentennial State Park. This large park is a beautiful getaway right outside of Columbia. Everything you need for a day in nature or a camping getaway is here. The day use area is very large and close to the lake, there are lots of picnic areas and several pavilions. They even have a doggy park!
The lake is large, you can rent boats if you didn't bring yours! There's a small man made "waterfall" as well.

There are plenty of trails to enjoy, we didn't hike them all but still hiked over 3 miles! They are mostly flat and well maintained. You can loop around lake or explore out from it.
This park was a surprise as we didn't think there would be such a nice getaway so close to a large city. We visited this park in fall, we ended up with a lot of pictures! Scroll down to see a few more pictures. Woods Bay State Park

Here there! Today we visit woods bay! This isn't a very large park, but it still offers plenty to see and do!
There's a nature loop around the pond and a long boardwalk trail that goes through marsh. They also have a one mile, very unique kayak trail! There are several picnic areas and a large pavilion close to the main office and learning center.
Both trails start at the same place. You can detour off the pond loop trail, take the boardwalk (it's not a loop), then continue on the loop. There are several learning stops along the boardwalk trail. We hiked both and it was around 1.75 miles. The boardwalk is very diverse and unique, don't skip it! Oh, and watch out for alligators!!
Make sure you have enough time to enjoy this cool little park. The trails and wildlife are so unique and diverse you'll forget you're in SC!  Scroll down to see a few more pictures.
